Toot toot, Thomas fans – here’s a sweet little outing for families with young children.
The Central Coast Steam Model Co-op in Narara runs monthly train ride days where kids (and grown-ups!) can climb aboard miniature trains and enjoy a ride around the tracks. It’s one of those wonderfully simple, old-school family activities that never loses its charm.
The trains themselves are fascinating to watch up close. Some run on steam, others are powered by battery electric motors, and a few use small internal combustion engines. Every engine is owned and driven by passionate volunteers who love sharing their hobby with the community.

Bring a picnic rug and make a relaxed morning of it, or grab a classic sausage sanga from the charity BBQ. The Freemasons run the sausage sizzle, with proceeds supporting equipment for the children’s ward at Gosford Hospital.
It’s a lovely, low-cost community event that’s perfect for younger kids – and a delight for anyone who loves trains.
These fun days out are oh-so-popular and we can't wait to jump aboard!
When: First Saturday of every month, 11am - 4pm.
Where: Showground Rd, Narara (opposite Bellbowrie Ave).
Cost: $2.50 per ride. Free for kids aged 2 and under with a paying adult.
Important Tip: Everyone who wants to ride the train must have on enclosed shoes.
While you're in the area, why not check out one of Narara's many parks and playgrounds; Treeline Close Playground, Narara Valley Precinct Park, Gavenlock Oval Park, or Goonak Parade Playground?
