Play Centre at Kincumber Indoor Sports

February 1, 2019

Kincumber Indoor Sports Play Time play centre was given an overhaul in 2018 with four new inflatables installed in the space. Ben Nilsson took over the centre in 2017 and he’s not only spruced the place up but also introduced some great new activities. If you haven’t visited in a while, get there for a day out soon.

Play Time indoor play centre

Play Time is an indoor play area for kids aged 0-7. If you’re a carer of little ones, you’ll think this age restriction is great as it means your tots are free to run wild without the risk of being bowled over by older – and far bigger – kids. It also makes it a great place to bookmark come the school holidays when older kids tend to dominate the parks and other play centres.

The play area was given a fresh lease on life in 2017 with new carpet laid and the surrounding net replaced in October. These changes have given the space a real lift. The carpet is quite coarse, as the space doubles as an indoor soccer field (hence the net), but they have loads of soft-play mats scattered about the place in the likely fall zones.

The huge range of toys, inflatables, cubbies and ride-ons the space is known and loved for are all still there. One of the things we love about Play Time is that everything is located in one large open space. This makes supervision so much easier, as you can watch, for example, your 6-year-old bouncing on the jumping castle and keep an eye on your toddler on the bike ramp all while sipping your cappuccino at the cafe.

Play Equipment for Bubs

  • There’s a cordoned off soft-play area that’s ideal for crawlers and fresh teeter-totter walkers, as it keeps them out of harms way of enthusiastic toddlers on bikes and bouncy balls.
  • They also have a dolphin swing that holds babies securely, but you’ll probably have to wrestle a toddler out of it – they love it too. It’s a dolphin swing – what’s not to love!
  • Four jumping castles!
  • Soft-play obstacle course.
  • Cubby house with kitchen (fridge, dishwasher, cupboards, double sink and double oven – the judges of “The Block” would approve)
  • Cubby with slippery dip
  • Lots of bikes and ride-ons
  • 2 bike slides.
  • Hopper balls (those balls you sit and bounce on).
  • Swings (a standard seat and dolphin for babies, which toddlers love too).
  • Toy vacuum cleaner and a walker

Play Time Cafe

As at all play centres, food isn’t permitted on the play equipment (for good reason – let’s keep those sticky fingers away). This often makes it tricky, though, for parents with kids who love to snack. At Play Time this isn’t a problem as the cafe is located in the same space as the play area, so kids can happily wander over to your table for a few bites of sandwich before running off to play again. Perfect! The tables are large and there’s plenty of room for multiple strollers, so this space is ideal for mothers’ groups.

The lunch menu is extensive enough to satisfy even the fussiest of eaters with the likes of Vegemite sandwiches, nuggets, wedges and fairy bread for the kids and a burger with the works or roast chicken, avocado and salad wrap for adults. Their children’s lunch packs include a sandwich, pop-top juice (or milkshake) and a packet of chips for $6.

If you’re after a snack you can’t go past the cute mini $1 cupcakes or small toddler-sized $1 slushies! There are bigger muffins and cookies for adults, and of course coffee, hot chocolate and tea.

Adult group fitness (and fun for the kids) at Kincumber Play Time

Looking for a child-friendly space to exercise? You can’t get much better than this: adults train while the kids play. Local personal trainer Jacqui Payne of Strong Bodies, Strong Minds runs the 45-minute group fitness sessions. The sessions are open to both men and women, and encompass body strength, free weights and boxing. Jacqui is experienced in training people of all fitness levels, and has a particular interest in helping mums get their fitness back after childbirth.

While you train on one indoor court, your children (aged 0-6) can have fun playing in Play Time for half price. The indoor play area is located on the court next to where you train – your kids can see you and you can see them, so it’s happy days.

This is a casual pay-as-you-train situation, which makes it ideal for parents. Kids are sick, no bother. Going on holidays, no stress. You simply pay for the days you train. It’s $16/session. You can also buy a 10-session pass at the discounted rate of $150. Opt for this if you’re a procrastinator – paying up front certainly gives you great motivation to commit. Your healthy self will thank you for it.

When: 9:15am-10am Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Price: You can attend casually for $16/session, or buy a 10-session pass for $150. Half-price Play Time entry is $3.50 for babes under 2; $5 for kids aged 2-6. Payment can be made by cash or card.
Special deal: Bring a friend to the group fitness morning, mention “Playing in Puddles”, and your friend gets in for $8 (½ price).
