We love it when a new children’s production comes to the Central Coast, and this time it’s the beautifully funny and fantastically adventurous story of Scaredy Cat from puppet theatre company, Terrapin. Coming to The Art House Wyong this January, this engaging new kids’ stage show from the internationally recognised group will make a perfect school holiday treat for primary school-aged children.

And – what makes this experience extra special is that children attending the show have the opportunity to take part in a  90-minute puppet craft workshop that’s available when purchased as part of a Workshop + Performance package!

Scaredy Cat Performance

Scaredy Cat comes from a family of fierce hunters, hired for the biggest jobs, with the meanest rodents. When an urgent call comes in, it’s Scaredy’s turn to do the family proud. The only problem is, she’s terrified of mice! Trapped in an old basement with three cunning critters, Scaredy is bullied and all by herself – or so she thinks. As the antique furniture in the basement comes creakily to life, a whole new world of eccentric characters is revealed, leading Scaredy on a journey she’ll never forget!

Terrapin’s new production for 2022 is a funny, beautiful, and fantastic story of friendship across generations. Cute doesn’t mean no courage, and old age doesn’t make you obsolete.

Puppet Craft Workshop

Children attending the Scaredy Cat stage show are in for a real treat this Summer as they’ll get the opportunity to attend a 90-minute puppet craft workshop, brought to you by Tasmanian contemporary puppet theatre company, Terrapin.

The workshop is available when purchased as part of the Workshop + Performance package and focuses on creative play, in particular, re-imagining and bringing to life common everyday items found around the house. It will begin with an introduction to the techniques of object theatre where participants learn to bring an object to life, which is then followed by simple storytelling and character activities.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants are invited to perform a 2-minute sequence of their story for the other participants, describing the personality and adventures of your new and improved household character!

If you’re looking for ways to make these school holidays fun and memorable, this performance and workshop experience will definitely ignite the imaginations of young kids and have them talking about it for years to come.
