Have we found the cheeriest winter activity of all time? We certainly think so! Pop on your brightest beanie and warmest puffer jacket and head to The Bloom Barn Farm in Peats Ridge on Saturday 23 July. They are opening their sunflower field to the public for Pick Your Own Sunflowers Day, and we’re already daydreaming about the super cute family photos we can take amongst the amazing yellow blooms.

So how does it work? When you buy a ticket, you can pick up to five sunflower stems. With a family pass (two adults and two children) you can pick up to 20 flowers – perfect if you want to make a gorgeous gift for someone or just want to display a nice big bunch at home. Want more sunflowers? Additional stems can be purchased for $4 each.

Besides soaking up the winter sun while walking around the stunning sunflower field (sounds like a dream, right?) there will be activities for the whole family to enjoy, including roasting marshmallows on a fire pit. Thinking a coffee would go perfectly with some sunflower picking? The Bloom Barn Farm is two steps ahead of you and has organised a coffee cart to keep you warm and energised. There will also be a florist there to help you make flower crowns (for an additional cost). Why not make matching ones for everyone in the fam? Adorable.

There are 10,000 sunflowers in bloom on the farm at the moment and we can’t wait to get amongst them and choose our favourites to take home on the day! We’ll also be packing our picnic rug and warm drinks to further enjoy this lovely winter’s day on the farm.

About the The Bloom Barn Farm

The Bloom Barn Farm is located in Peats Ridge and is run by flower farmer Ivan and his team. Ivan’s family has been turning the soil at this farm for more than 40 years – it was originally a fruit and vegetable farm before they moved into flowers. The team grows a wide variety of produce throughout the year and has been selling direct at farmers’ markets between Newcastle and Sydney for the past eight years.

Pick Your Own Sunflowers Day is The Bloom Barn Farm’s second pick-your-own event – last year was all about the beautiful red Sweet William flowers in spring and it was a big success! Ivan says, “I’ve been doing markets for eight years, and people kept saying that they’d love to come to our farm to pick the flowers, so this is literally us listening to our customers.” Thanks Ivan! We are so excited to be able to enjoy a day out like this right here on the Central Coast.
