Looking for a Paediatrician on the Central Coast?
Finding the right support when you’re worried about your child’s health or development can be overwhelming – particularly when you’re not quite sure which specialist they need or where to start. The good news is that specialist care can be found right here on the Central Coast.
Intuition Paediatrics now has three experienced paediatricians who care for babies, children and teenagers – yep all the way from birth to 16 years of age.
And one thing that's handy to know from the outset: Intuition Paediatrics is open to all families. Your child doesn't need to have been born through Intuition or have previously been a patient of the clinic to see one of its paediatricians.
As parents, we know it can be tricky to navigate finding the right care for your child and understanding what steps are needed to see specialists, so we've put together a little list of questions that we know parents normally like answers to, so you can find the right care for your child sooner.
Which paediatrician does my child need?
The three paediatricians specialise in different age groups and areas of concern, so who your child sees will depend on their age and the reason for their referral. You don't need to figure this out entirely on your own either – Intuition's Patient Support Team can help direct your child to the most appropriate doctor.
Dr Shriniwas Chinta is an experienced neonatologist and general paediatrician who sees babies and children from birth to five years of age for medical concerns. With more than 20 years of experience in newborn and paediatric care, Dr Chinta has extensive experience caring for babies during those important early years.
Dr Umesh Mishra is a neonatal paediatrician who sees babies and children from birth to 10 years of age for both medical and behavioural health concerns. He has a particular interest in the growth and development of newborns and is accredited to conduct Bayley developmental assessments.
Dr Ahmed Khan cares for children and adolescents from birth to 16 years of age and consults for both medical and behavioural health concerns, providing families with access to paediatric support right through to the teenage years.
Together, the three doctors give Central Coast families access to paediatric care across a broad range of ages and concerns, right here on the Central Coast.
How do I make an appointment?
Your first step is to speak with your child's GP about getting a referral to Intuition Paediatrics.
Once the clinic receives the referral – Intuition recommends sending it by email – it can be reviewed and your child directed to the appropriate paediatrician based on their age, reason for referral and the services each doctor provides.
And if you're sitting there thinking, But how am I supposed to know which paediatrician to ask my GP for? – you don't need to work that out first. Intuition's Patient Support Team can help guide you through the process.
What do I need for a behavioural health appointment?
If your child is being referred for behavioural health concerns, there are a few extra forms to complete before an appointment can be booked. This helps the paediatrician build a clearer picture of your child before you arrive, so your consultation time can be spent focusing on what matters most.
Along with your GP referral, you'll need to provide:
- Two completed SNAP-IV forms – one completed by your child's primary caregiver and one by their school or daycare teacher.
- A completed New Patient Form.
- Recent school reports (if applicable).
- Any relevant reports from professionals already involved in your child's care, such as a speech pathologist, psychologist, occupational therapist or other allied health providers.
- A short family history (around 100 words) outlining any known neurodiverse conditions in the family, if relevant.
Having this information ready before your first appointment helps give the paediatrician valuable background information and makes the initial consultation as useful as possible.

What is Intuition?
Intuition is a private specialist clinic on the Central Coast offering Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Fertility, Paediatrics and Specialist Ultrasound services.
The clinic has been caring for Central Coast women and families since 2016, with the addition of Intuition Paediatrics extending that care to children too.
