If you’ve been wanting to see a proper musical – we're talking big cast, brilliant songs and all the excitement of a night at the theatre – we've got exciting news!

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is coming to Laycock Street Community Theatre this September, bringing the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Broadway hit to the Central Coast for the very first time.

This is one to round up your family or friends for. Take your partner, your mum, your best mate or make it a family night at the theatre. For those who grew up with Carole King's music, there'll be plenty of songs you know and love, while kids and teens can experience the excitement of a full-scale musical – all without the Sydney drive or big-city theatre price tag.

The incredible true story behind the music

Long before Carole King became one of the world's most celebrated solo artists, she was a teenage songwriter from Brooklyn trying to make her mark on the music industry.

Beautiful follows her remarkable journey from writing hit songs with Gerry Goffin in the 1960s to finding her own voice and becoming the artist behind her best-selling album, Tapestry.

And even if you don't immediately recognise Carole King's name, there's a very good chance you'll recognise her music.

The show is packed with classics including "You've Got a Friend", "One Fine Day", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", "The Loco-Motion" and I" Feel the Earth Move".

It's a story about music, friendship, relationships, resilience and backing yourself – all wrapped up in a feel-good Broadway musical.

A Broadway musical, made right here on the Central Coast

The Central Coast premiere is being presented by Curtain Bounce – the acclaimed company behind the hugely successful local productions of The Phantom of the Opera and A Chorus Line – together with Laycock Street Community Theatre.

It's directed by Stuart Smith and stars local favourite Josephine Emmett as Carole King.

And expectations are high, as Stage Whispers described Curtain Bounce's most recent production of A Chorus Line as "the best musical the Central Coast has ever seen."

If you want to treat the family – or round up a group of friends – for a BIG musical without the BIG price tag, this is an absolute winner.
