- Pack a picnic and enjoy the sunshine at Avoca Lake. Aquafun’s pedalboats, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards will keep the family entertained for hours.
- Have a precious newborn who still sleeps for two hours over lunch? Perfect. Celebrate your first (and oh so special) Mother’s Day at Bells at Killcare’s long lazy lunch. The degustation menu includes venison carpaccio, Cape Grim beef fillet with braised Swiss mushrooms, and meringue with rose gelato and roasted autumn figs ($130 adult; $55 child: phone 4349 7000 to book).
- Know that breakfast in bed just won’t happen with your energetic rug-rats? Head for Umina for a dip in the ocean prior to a Champagne breakfast at Jasmine Greens Café (phone 4344 5398). Throw in the scooters and bikes and follow breakie with a family ride around the Peninsula Recreation Precinct. Check out our review of the Precinct here.
- Throw out a line and catch your lunch off the wharf at Woy Woy’s Lions Park (the end of North Burge Road). The resident pelicans will love catching your off-cuts, the kids will make friends in the playground and you can enjoy a quiet – and uninterrupted (oh so rare!) – chat with your hubby.
- Allow Bombini chef Cameron Cansdell to take over the dinner preparation and treat you to a Sunday Roast ($30; $15 kids options; call 4381 1436). Get there a little earlier to enjoy a Mojito or Old Fashioned at the bar – go on, you deserve it.
- Let someone else take over the tongs and enjoy a BBQ at Long Jetty’s Saltwater Creek Reserve (Cnr Central Coast Highway and Tuggerah Parade). The fully fenced Liberty Park is great for tiny tots, older kids will love getting air off the jumps at the dirt bike track and there’s plenty of green space for a game of cricket or butterfly chasing.
