If you love the idea of taking your daughter, granddaughter, son or grandson, to see a real ballet, this is absolutely for you.

Following sell-out seasons across the country, the Victorian State Ballet’s much-loved performance of Aladdin is coming to Laycock Street Community Theatre this May – and it’s a beautiful choice for a truly special outing.

There’s something about ballet at the theatre, isn’t there? The red seats, the curtain rising, the hush before it begins. The incredible costumes, the magestic dancers, and those point shoes! We still remember being taken as kids – feeling so grown up, so special. It’s not just a show, it’s an occasion.

And Aladdin is such a perfect tale to experience this way. It’s a story children already know and love – but seeing it reimagined on stage brings a whole new sense of wonder.

Kids will love watching Aladdin discover the lamp and unlock the Genie, feeling the tension when Jafar appears, and delighting in the magic carpet. And, perhaps above all, seeing the Disney heroine Jasmine come to life – on stage, right in front of them. It'll give little Jasmine's goosebumps.

The storytelling will draw little ones in, but it's the dancing that will truly take their breath away. Sweeping grand jetés, elegant arabesques and perfectly poised pirouettes – all performed with a grace that makes it look effortless (until your little one tries it at home later). Because it’s told through classical ballet, every moment feels more expressive, more beautiful and more memorable.

For kids who already do ballet, this is a chance to see what all those lessons, rehearsals, concerts and practice can become.

If you have a little dancer, this is an opportunity you won't want to miss. Go on, treat them to a night at the ballet: they'll think it such a special occasion and feel so very, very special themselves.
