A brand new playground popped up in a quiet nook of Erina earlier this month – and it’s tailor-made for little people.

Syd Sherar Park, named in honour of the late Syd Sherar (a generous local who donated the space to the community), now boasts a bright new playground.

Set at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and framed on one side by native trees, this isn’t a bells-and-whistles park, but rather a simple, crowd-free spot for tiny tots to run about.

What you’ll find at Syd Sherar Park

Set on soft-fall rubber, this pocket playground has been designed with little legs and early climbers in mind. The play area includes:

  • A double slide
  • Climbing panels and rope arch
  • Shop counter for imaginative play
  • Interactive clock and “spin-the-move” activity dial
  • A bee spring rocker
  • A toddler swing and standard swing
  • A large nest swing for group play or sensory needs

There’s room to scoot or toddle about, and the low-traffic cul-de-sac location means it’s a safer space for runners.

A few notes for parents

The park is fresh off the tools, and a few minor fixes are already underway. The bowl spinner was damaged and is being replaced, and the spin dial and clock were initially too tight for little fingers, but Council has confirmed these will be adjusted shortly.

Also, while we’re promoting it as a toddler space, the climbing platforms are a tad tall for the average 1-year-old to scale independently, so it’s best suited to kids aged 2+.

The mature trees on one side provide shade at certain times in the day, but we recommend packing a hat and visiting early or late in the day when the sun isn’t too fierce.
