Want to recycle, but never get the time to offload tricky household items such as broken electronics, batteries and old toys? Well, if you’re like us, you’ll be very excited to hear that there’s a new recycling trial starting up on the Central Coast, and it’s a real game-changer!
Central Coast Council has teamed up with Recycle Smart to give you the chance to be involved in testing a free from-home collection service. It’s for household objects that don’t fit within the existing recycling services, that can be either recycled or passed on to charities. Here are just some of things they can take off your hands:
- Soft plastics, including shopping bags, cling wrap, biscuit and chip packets, bread bags, and bubble wrap.
- Old mobile phones, computer parts, alarm clocks, electric games, angle grinders, headphones, toasters, torches and modems.
- Reusable clothing and textiles, including shoes, bags, belts, towels, linen, jeans, pants and tops.
- They even recycle polystyrene, smoke detectors, paint, aluminium coffee capsules, books, toys and DVDs!
Honestly, we are blown away by the huge variety of household objects Recycle Smart will collect – check out the full list here.
All you have to do is register and Recycle Smart will take care of the rest, right down to collecting the items for free from your doorstep. It really couldn’t be easier, and we love that instead of contributing to landfill, household waste can be turned into things like fitness trails, drinking fountains, and outdoor furniture!
Want to get involved? Here’s how to participate:
- Sign up at the Recycle Smart website, or via their app.
- Once your registration is confirmed, simply wait for notification of your collection date and then pop your items outside your door for pick up.
Too easy! Places are limited, and it’s only running until the end of August, so make sure you register quickly. By joining the trial, you get to help our community and reduce local landfill (and maybe get on top of some decluttering too!).
And if you’re keen to find more ways to reduce your waste, check out our feature on the Curby service, where you can put soft plastics into your yellow lid recycling bin using provided CurbyBags and CurbyTags. Click here to find out more.
