Families with teens at home will know that the start of a new school year can be quite unsettling and bring along with it a lot of anxiety and uncertainty. For our young people, it can be an extremely tumultuous time as they battle with these strong feelings as well as the huge hormonal changes that are also taking place at this age.

To help parents and carers navigate through this time with their teenage kids, the national youth mental health foundation, Headspace is partnering with NSW Government to host a series of FREE online workshops for adults to help them best support their youngsters during this challenging time.

Central Coast , Parent/Carer webinar: communicating with my young person

This webinar is designed to help parents and carers connect and communicate with young people around their mental health and wellbeing. During the session, you can expect to:

  • Increase your knowledge & understanding of the mental health challenges facing young people today.
  • What do you notice about your young person their emotions, thoughts, feelings and behaviours?
  • How to start the conversation and enhance connections with your young person.
  • Introduce you to some of the skills and strategies to encourage and support help-seeking.

When: Monday 14 March, 12 – 1.15pm.

Central Coast, Parent/Carer webinar: helping my young person during COVID

This webinar is to assist parents and carers in supporting young people with their mental health during COVID-19. Expect to:

  • Strengthen your understanding of mental health definitions.
  • Enhance your conversational approach to mental health and well being.
  • Build skills and strategies to support young people, including transition to work and study.
  • Build awareness of local, state and national supports available to young people.

When: Monday 28 March, 6.30 – 7.45pm.
Where: Online.
