UPDATE 28 March 2023: Brella has sadly closed down.

A brand-new skatepark facility has opened on the Central Coast and we reckon your kids and teens will be all over it! Named Brella Skatepark and located in Somersby, this fantastic new skating space is slick, spacious, and designated for coaching sessions only, so your kids can learn fundamental skating skills, work on tricks like axel stalls or practice at an advanced level without worrying about other hectic skater traffic!

And what does an all-bells-and-whistles skating facility require? Epic coaching sessions of course! Brella will be doing after-school classes for skate rats of all levels from beginner right up to advanced and they’re taking enrolments for term 1 now! Visit the Brella Skatepark website to jump on board and be a part of Brella’s very first term.

Want to see it for yourself? You can this weekend at Brella Skatepark’s FREE open day! Get there on Saturday 28 January from 10am – 2pm to meet the Brella crew and get a taste of what’s on offer. But be warned – your kids will fall in love with it!

Brella Skatepark Coaching Sessions

Brella’s kids’ coaching program is for aspiring skate rats at all levels, with beginner, intermediate and advanced sessions available. During classes, kids will have a range of the whole park, so they won’t have to worry about bumping into other skaters like at a public skatepark. This is important, especially when first starting out as it gives kids the freedom to learn in a space free of intimidation and with no other traffic in the way.

Beginner Level: Beginner classes run for 1.5 hours and are for children just taking up skateboarding. They’ll learn proper foot positioning, pushing correctly, how to ride on ramps and banks, basic board control, pumping, and most importantly, dropping in. They’ll also build a tonne of confidence!

Intermediate Level: Intermediate classes run for 1.5 hours and are for kids who have already picked up the basic skills of skateboarding. To progress to or begin the intermediate class, kids must be able to drop in and kick turn on a ramp confidently and unassisted. During this class, kids will learn a bunch of tricks including rock to fakies, fakie rocks, rock and rolls, tail stalls, 5-0 slash grinds, axel stalls, and more. They’ll also pick up flat ground, ledge, and rail tricks.

Advanced Level: Advanced classes run for 1.5 hours and are for truly advanced skaters. If your kid is a die-hard skate rat, this is the class for them.

Plus, as well as picking up nifty skills, kids and teens will learn skatepark etiquette (so they can use skateparks fairly and safely), develop social skills, stay fit, and build a strong community of friends.

Kids can sign up simply for fitness and fun and if they’re super keen, they’ll have the option to sign up for the Central Coast comp series later in the year.
