The autumn school holidays will be here in a snap, and we’ve found a beautifully paced holiday experience that balances fun and creativity.
This April, Trinket the Robot arrives at Laycock Street Community Theatre with a charming puppetry performance, plus the option to extend the experience with a hands-on robot-making workshop.
The lively, interactive show draws children into a world of inventions, emotions and imagination, with plenty of laughs woven through the story. Families can choose to enjoy the performance on its own, or build it into a fuller holiday outing by adding the creative workshop – either on the same day or spread across the holidays.
It’s a lovely option for parents, grandparents and carers alike – thoughtful, engaging and easy to shape around what works best for your family.

What's the show about? Trinket is a robot with feelings (and a big heart)!
Welcome to the Inventor’s Convention, where problem-solving is the name of the game.
Dr Doovalacky is a brilliant inventor… but he has a problem no invention seems to fix – he’s lonely. With help from his mischievous laboratory assistant Gizmo (a green caterpillar with a talent for chaos), he sets out to build a robot friend.
Enter Trinket.
This is no ordinary robot. Trinket has a special component that allows him to feel emotions – each colour triggering a different feeling. Joy. Wonder. Shyness. Fear. Anger. Sadness. What starts as a clever invention quickly becomes something much bigger, as Trinket – and the audience – discover that being “real” means learning how to navigate all those feelings, even the tricky ones.
The show is funny, fast-paced and interactive, gently inviting children to help Trinket understand emotions and the world around him. Based loosely on the story of Pinocchio, it’s designed for young audiences and teaches emotions in a way that feels playful, not heavy.
Combine the performance with a robot-making workshop: you can make a day of it – or spread out the fun!
Want to become an inventor? Join the robot-making workshop inspired by Trinket the Robot.
Kids will be invited to create their own robot friend using rescued and recycled materials. Buttons, bottle tops, cardboard rolls and everyday bits and pieces become the starting point for imaginative creations – and every child leaves with their own unique robot to take home.
You can attend the performance and workshop back to back at the theatre OR, if you prefer to spread the fun and keep it to one activity a day, attend the stand-alone workshop at Gosford Library. We love activities that let families choose what works best for them – one big special day, or two smaller adventures across the holidays.
Materials are supplied, and families are also welcome to bring along small rescued items to personalise their robot, such as bottle tops, container lids, egg cartons, small boxes or plastic containers.
Children aged 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult (accompanying adults do not require a workshop ticket).
If you’re looking for an autumn school holiday experience that blends theatre, creativity and heart – this is one your kids will genuinely cherish.
