We’re big fans of green living – and even bigger fans of turning it into a good time! So when we heard about the Sustainable Future Festival at The Entrance, we thought, “Yep, that’s our kind of day out.”
Happening Saturday 15 November at Memorial Park, this free community festival by 1Coast is set to be an inspiring, sunshine-filled celebration of sustainability, creativity, and family fun.
Kids (and grown-ups!) can:
- Make their own beeswax wraps,
- Blend up a free smoothie using bike pedal power.
- Turn used plastics into brand-new pens using a nifty crank machine with fab Sydney recycling group Banish!
- Upcycle one of their old football jerseys into an awesome tote bag their mates will be fizzing for! Unwanted FC – the global legends who have turn old jerseys into one-of-a-kind garb – will be there to show them how! Bookings essential: see below for booking links.
- Make a flower crown and nature wand... (scroll below the pics for more fun happenings)....

And that’s just the start! You can also:
- Meet lizards, snakes, marsupials, and birds at the Australian Wildlife Displays show.
- Join in with Junkyard Beats’ Musical Garden – an interactive sound playground made entirely from upcycled items.
- Try their hand at textile weaving, worm farming, composting, and small-space gardening.
- Play a giant board game, the cornhole game, giant Jenga and more.
- Learn how to build your own bee hotel
Got a bike that’s broken? Bring it along – the friendly crew at the Repair Café will help fix it for free. Plus they'll be giving demonstrations on how to restore rusty tools, and how to repair broken jewellery and small mechanical items, so you can give your favourites a second life instead of tossing them out.
Got questions on composting? Or what can be put in your yellow bin? Or how to mend a shirt and sew on a button? There will be experts there to answer your questions. And in many cases, to even show you how.
Bonus: The one and only Costa Georgiadis will be there too! The gardening legend himself will bring his trademark beard, energy, and wisdom to the stage – inspiring us all to live a little greener (and maybe get our hands a bit dirtier).
Want to do a workshop? Scroll down to book in quick smart before they book out.
Whether you’re a planner or a spur-of-the-moment type, the Sustainable Future Festival is the perfect excuse to get outdoors and have some fun. It’s free, family-friendly and inspiring – and you’ll head home with fresh ideas for living lighter on the planet. And that sounds pretty awesome to us.

Live Upcycling Demo – Limited Spots!

You’ll collaborate with their in-house tailor, choosing standout details from your garment to cut, sew, and stitch into something totally new. Each tote takes about 30 minutes to make.
Unwanted FC has worked with some of the world’s top athletes – now it’s your turn to join the movement and "bags" yourself a brag-worthy tote (did you like what we did there?)
