The Peasant Prince will move audiences young and old with its honest sharing of difficult and often heartbreaking situations, including poverty, hunger and the heartache of Li leaving his family for the chance of a better life. But the sad moments are equally met by moments of hope and inspiration – they’re found in the fables told by Li’s father and teacher Xiao and in the growing of Li as a dancer.
A small team of talented actors share multiple roles and the set uses a clever mix of shadows and screens to allow the actors to change costumes to show the passing of time and a move to a new location.
