We love heading to the theatre as a family! It’s always so much fun to see your little one’s eyes light up when the music starts and the performers take their place. We are thrilled that the enchanting story of The Owl and the Pussycat is taking to The Art House stage in the July school holidays, and feel so lucky that we don’t have to travel down to Sydney or up to Newcastle for a bit of culture. We have it right here on the Coast thanks to The Art House!

If you’re wondering whether or not you should head along to a performance of The Owl and the Pussycat, here are five reasons why you definitely should be booking tickets…

1. It’s a gorgeous story

There’s just something so magical about an owl and a pussycat travelling in a pea-green boat, across the sea for a year and a day to fair Bong-tree Bay. It’s adventurous, romantic and nonsensical, and this duo will absolutely captivate you and draw you into their world. It’s also a lovely way to introduce this story to your kids, especially if the original poem brings back some feelings of nostalgia for you!

2. The whole family will adore the interactive experience

Nope, this isn’t just a play! The Owl and the Pussycat is an interactive journey that invites you to participate in musical and multi-sensory ways. The purpose? To help the brave duo reach their destination, of course!

3. The music is amazing

The Owl and the Pussycat will feature stunning vocals that will enthral kids and adults alike. We’ve also heard there will be a troupe of musical puffins (umm, adorable) and this is DEFINITELY something we want to see and hear.

4. There are accompanying musical workshops

If you head along to see this show on Tuesday 12 July, kids will be able to participate in a fun musical workshop before the show. In this workshop, they’ll play percussion instruments and explore the show’s themes of harmony, adventure and acceptance. (Workshops need to be booked as a workshop + show package).

5. You can take part in some origami making

To get into the spirit of The Owl and the Pussycat, you can join a free origami boat-making workshop on Wednesday 13 July at 11am at The Art House. You can stay after the 10am session to take part, or come early before the 12pm performance. Such a great way to spend a morning of the school holidays.
