There’s a cafe inside The Art House at Wyong and it’s open all day!
We’ve long despaired about the lack of dining options available of an afternoon. Parents are always looking to fill the afternoon before the on-set of the dinner-bath-bed routine and kids leave school starving – absolutely famished – and yet there are so few places on the Coast that cater to these groups. Most cafes close their kitchens at 2.30pm and restaurants don’t open until 5.30pm at the earliest. Where is one to go other than a food court or Maccas? Well, thanks to the Art House at Wyong you now have a new, far better option.
The cafe provides seating both inside and out, and its lovely grassed courtyard has ample space for kids to run. The courtyard isn’t fully enclosed – as it’s a point of access for theatre patrons – but it’s a lovely sunny space for lunch or afternoon tea. There are a few larger tables and plenty of room for strollers, so it’s a great new meeting spot for mothers groups. And no, you don’t have to be attending a play to patronise the cafe – it’s open to everyone.
The menu is really well priced (lunch options are $6-$12) and includes the likes of salt and pepper squid, rice paper rolls, a roasted vegetable and pesto panini, and tandoori chicken samosas. Kids can order nuggets and chips, pies, sausage rolls, or a ham and cheese toastie ($5-$6).
If you have a sugar craving you’re well catered for. The lemon tarts, caramel kisses, Nutella brownies and macarons are baked locally – at Avoca Beach’s Ludo’s Patisserie.
They also have snacks by way of milkshakes, ice creams, muffins and banana bread, and of course, babycinos. They serve Peaberrys coffee from Islington Newcastle, T2 tea and they’re fully licensed.
The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to find a second blue macaron when our boys insisted that no other colour would do (toddler wrangling!). You do have to order at the til, but the food is delivered to your table, so they get points from us there (we hate it when you have to hang around waiting for a number to be called).
