Take your entire family to the movies for $32!
Want to take your family to the movies for $32 to see new releases including Despicable Me 2, Inside Out 2 and Garfield The Movie this July! Well, you can at Heddon Greta Drive-In.
Playing in Puddles visited these school holidays and we had such a brilliant time. This is old-school, nostalgic family fun and we’re all for it. Think pillows and blankets in the boot, burgers and chips for dinner and the most enormous bucket of popcorn you ever did see for the bargain basement price of $9!
Plus, it’s just $32 per car – meaning you can take an entire family of 8 to see a new-release movie for just $4 each! We love them apples!
This experience won’t be around forever, sadly, as the land has been sold and will soon be developed into a housing estate. But, while originally scheduled to close in July 2024, we’ve been told by the venue that closure has been delayed til February 2025. Whoop whoop! As only one of two drive-in cinemas remaining in New South Wales (the other is in Blacktown Sydney), we recommend you get there soon.
Where is Heddon Greta Drive-In?
As Coasties, we’re super lucky that Heddon Greta is just a hop skip down the road. It’s just 45 minutes north of Wyong, or an hour up the highway from Gosford.
How do I get tickets to Heddon Greta Drive-in?
Tickets must be purchased online. It’s $32 per vehicle per movie (up to 8 people per car). Three movies screen each evening and you can choose to stay for 1, 2 or all three movies. In winter, the first movie kicks off at 6pm (with gates opening at 5.30pm) and the last film starts screening about 10pm.
Tickets are released about a week ahead of screenings.
Food is available at Heddon Greta Drive-In plus you can BYO
The drive-in serves food and drinks and it’s really reasonably priced. They have burgers, chips, hot dogs and the like for dinner, plus all your favourite movie snacks, such as choc tops, lollies, chocolates and the biggest buckets of popcorn!
All food must be ordered online. And, wile the menu is available to view beforehand, you can only start placing your order once the gates open at 5.30pm. Once your food is ready, you’ll get a text message notifying you to pick your order up from the diner (which is worth a visit for its old-school nostalgic vibe).
In great news, you can also BYO food.
Important tips to make the most of your Heddon Greta Drive-In experience
To hear the film you’ll need an FM radio. Rather than using up your car battery, it’s best to take a portable FM radio/boom box. We recommend you throw in some spare batteries too.
The drive-in opens 30 minutes before the first movie starts. We recommend you get there nice and early so you can grab a good spot, have dinner and set up your boot with pillows and blankets for an awesome screening experience.
You’re allowed to set up chairs and picnic rugs in front of your car too. But we reckon setting up in the boot is the most authentic and fun way to experience this.
Above all, have a great time.
