WatanobbiThe learning environment at Little Coast Kids Wyong Child Care Centre provides children with a true sense of belonging, while offering a range of real life activities for the children to help them thrive. The children and educators alike love exploring the surrounding bushland and open spaces through the Bush Kindy program, which encourages children to discover a world of possibilities and learning by connecting them with nature. This helps foster discussion about how the world around them works, an appreciation of the natural environment as well as maths and science learnings through Australian flora and fauna. The Centre prides itself on its hands-on sustainability practices and teachings, with children obtaining lifelong skills as they are part of the team responsible for the fruit and veggie gardens, helping bring seedlings to life until they are ready to be prepared as a snack or meal. These gardens are complemented by the large playground area and vast amount of green space that inspires creative play. The culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is celebrated, with children learning about our Indigenous communities’ history through dreamtime stories, art, songs and dances. Education programs and experiences are heightened by working closely with local organisations and schools, including trips to school showcases, which helps offer a more intricate view of school and the world. Umina BeachThis popular centre provides both stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments where your child will thrive. The recent upgrade, thanks to Stronger Communities Funding, has provided an engaging outdoor area to inspire curiosity and creative play. Ageing equipment and surfaces were replaced as well as decking repairs to improve safety and beautify the areas. Replacement of shade structures, new turf and native plants complete the upgrade. The individual interests and needs of each child are supported through deliberate, intentional and thoughtful teaching. Children are given time to discover, explore, imagine and investigate in order to develop their problem solving and communication skills, with educators assisting children to develop a higher understanding of empathy and respect and they teach children how their actions and words impact others. Children are encouraged to engage in adventurous play and to recognise safe and unsafe situations – their independence is encouraged and understanding of their right to have a say and to be heard in the decision making process is built. Connections and an appreciation of our outdoor environments are instilled through the Outside-the-Gate program, which utilises the local environment as a tool for teaching, learning and exploration. ToukleyLittle Coast Kids Toukley Child Care Centre has an exceptional outdoor learning environment to inspire creative play and make learning fun. The colourful and stimulating environment includes a tee pee hut, coloured squares and uneven blocks to challenge and promote physical development, while the sand and mud pits assist with sensory processing, developing fine motor skills while encouraging risky play-based learning. The buddy bench helps new friendships flourish – the concept behind this is if children are feeling lonely and want to someone to talk or play with they go sit on the buddy bench – children are encouraged to sit with or invite to play those they see on the bench. This encourages a centre of inclusiveness and security helping provide children with the confidence they need to thrive. The covered outdoor deck allows for story time and other activities to be taken outside where children can learn in the fresh air, a key aspect of the centre’s holistic approach to development. Natural settings are also experienced through the Bush Kindy program set up on the adjacent reserve, while connections with the community are built through the regular Outside-the-Gate program. Nurturing long-term staff develop strong long-lasting relationships with families, with third generations of families coming through the doors year after year. Two-way partnership with parents is of utmost importance to the centre to ensure each individual child’s needs are met. Read more...
